About counselling and therapy

Life is often described as a journey or path, and sometimes life can feel overwhelming. This can be due to a culmination of things or it can be as a response to a specific event or episode in your life. It can be good to talk to someone who is there to fully listen and to help you to explore what is troubling you.

"Anytime you're gonna grow, you're gonna lose something. You're losing what you're hanging onto to keep safe. You're losing habits that you're comfortable with, you're losing familiarity." James Hillman.

Counselling and Psychotherapy is about transition or change: perhaps a change in attitude, perspective, or circumstance. Change isn't always immediately visible and change can be scary. Sometimes small steps are enough to make a positive difference to your life .
I am interested in existential thought and how we make meaning of being in the world.

In terms of benefits from counselling and therapy, there is increasing evidence that it is the therapeutic relationship itself which brings about insight and change.
I believe the therapy relationship is vitally important and I see the client as an active participant in the relationship. Clients can benefit from having the space to talk and explore issues, at their own pace, and this can bring greater awareness. For example, noticing how patterns of behaviour or in relationships are causing problems.
As an integrative and relational therapist I can help you to explore how past experiences including childhood, can affect how you are feeling now.

I am experienced in helping clients who have experienced a wide range of difficulties, these include :

Family of origin issues
Attachment and Relationships
Stress
Anxiety
Bereavement
Depression
Fertility
Identity
Transitions
Trauma

I also work with Employee Assistance providers (EAP's) and I am a Registered Healthcare Provider with AVIVA, Axa, BUPA, and Vitality Health.
